LOS ANGELES - August 23, 2005 - The South Group, developer of the first ground-up condominium project in downtown Los Angeles in more than 20 years, has announced its first recycling milestone: the new residential development, now more than 50 percent complete, is achieving an impressive 92% recycling rate for all construction waste leaving the job site.

The report has been certified by the project's general contractor, Howard S. Wright Construction, and meets preliminary requirements for the U. S. Green Building Council's (USGBC) Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification.

The South Group is the leading developer of new condominium projects in downtown Los Angeles, with more than 1,700 housing units planned or underway. Elleven is expected to be the developer's first downtown residential building to be LEED certified by the USGBC. LEED requirements consider construction issues that a builder addresses such as parking capacity, stormwater management, light-source pollution and water use reduction as well as a project's access to public transportation. A special category addresses the builder's innovations in green housekeeping and waste management during construction.

Elleven's recycling record is particularly impressive. Included in the company's 92% recycled materials are basic construction materials such as woods, metals, gypsum and concrete.

"We strive to be green, sustainable and environmentally-friendly." said Tom Cody, of The South Group. "We believe that our commitment to remaining eco-conscious and energy efficient has added to the great appeal of our properties," he said.

These South Park buildings will have minimal impact on the environment, Cody said. Just blocks from the Convention Center, AEG's Sports and Entertainment District (which includes Staples Center), the Transamerica Building and the area's first supermarket, many South residents will be able to walk to work and stroll to services. A number of transportation options - other than the automobile - are also available to those who live in this vibrant urban community.
