LOS ANGELES - August 1, 2008 - Despite the tough economy, downtown Los Angeles is still booming...especially in South Park, home to the highly anticipated Evo condominium opening in September.

One has to look no further than South, Los Angeles first new sustainable high-rise community (consisting of residential buildings Evo, Luma and Elleven), to see a bustling 24/7 neighborhood in the making where residents and visitors can enjoy some of the finest dining, arts and entertainment offerings in the heart of the city.

A new restaurant, wine bar and two art galleries are currently in the works (or recently opened), at South, located just steps away from energy and excitement of L.A. Live, Nokia Theatre and STAPLES Center.

Here’s what’s new at South:

Hygge, a new Pan-European restauarant located on the groundfloor of Luma (corner of 11th & Hope St.), is scheduled to begin construction this month. Hygge, Danish for cozy/comfortable, will feature a warm modern atmosphere (4,883 square foot dining area; 239 seats) influenced by Danish design; an authentic Danish bakery with a pastry chef from Copenhagen; live entertainment; a bar, lounge and outdoor patio seating. It’s scheduled to open at the end of the year.

South will toast the opening of Corkbar, a chic and inviting new 2,192 square foot wine bar located on the groundlfloor of Evo (1155 S. Grand Ave – corner of 12th & Grand). Corkbar will recreate the California wine tasting experience, focusing on dozens of different wineries from throughout the state, combined with a wine pairing menu. Guests can also raise their glasses on an 800 square foot outdoor patio. Corkbar is scheduled to open in December 2008.

Coinciding with the grand opening of Evo in September is the “spirited” addition of Phantom Galleries (www.phantomgalleriesla.com). Known for their attention-grabbing, temporary site-specific art installations occupying vacant storefronts throughout L.A., Phantom plans to transform 8,000 square feet of groundfloor space adjacent to Evo’s lobby (1155 S. Grand Ave.) into green-themed, pedestrian-friendly art exhibits reflecting “eco-politan” living at South.

As Evo – South’s third and final tower – nears completion, its sleek silhouette is defining modern city living in L.A. and sustainable living at its finest. Eco-conscious Evo is expected to be LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified by the U.S. Green Building Council; sustainable sister buildings Luma and Elleven are the first LEED Gold certified condominiums in California and helped inspire the city’s new Green Building Program.

A pedestrian-friendly streetscape of shade trees, landscaping and 24-foot wide sidewalks to walk and window shop add to South’s appeal as the place to live and play downtown.
